I am Vice President of Heavy Lift Services. I handle all aspects of the business except for loading of the vessels, that I leave to Glen. We handle a lot of things jointly. I may start the process or conversation with a customer, learning what they need and any concerns they have, then turn them over to Glen so they can discuss the actual loads, vessel capabilities, load options etc. I handle the day to day office operations, we have 4 employees processing paperwork for the vessels. There is a lot going on so I try to be on hand to handle any problems or out of the ordinary situations.

I have been with the company for 26 years. I started part-time but within a year I was fulltime. I just became more and more involved as time passed. I asked a lot of questions to the Old Timers who were still in the business, I’m sure I drove them crazy!

We have a lot of experience and flexibility. We handle cargos that can be time consuming to load, special charters and anything else in between. We have a regular run to Marsh Harbour every Monday on the Duke of Topsail and the ViNias has a regular run every other Tuesday to Spanish Wells, Long Island, Harbour Island & Nassau. We load for others customers as well on an as needed basis.

We have been here since 1965, Glen’s Dad originally opened the company as the dedicated stevedores for West India Shipping Co.

Heavy Lift Services is a stevedoring company, they receive the cargo and do the actual loading of the vessels.
Gulfstream Line is a steamship agency, they handle all the paperwork, loading guides, bills of lading & manifests.

We tend to have a very personal relationship with our customers. We like to cultivate long term relationships which over time became stronger. That is why when Hurricane Dorian came through we were very anxious to start hearing from people. When you talk to people on a regular basis you usually get to know one another so over the years we have become friends with a lot of people. Not knowing how they were was very frustrating. We talk on regular basis to a lot of our customers.

Working with your family is great and not so great at the same time. There is a lot of comfortability working with people you are related to, a lot of back and forth and discussions. We have the same goals and objectives so that helps greatly. Unfortunately when we don’t agree that becomes sometimes becomes a sticky situation but in general we usually get through those times rather quickly. I usually get Glen to see why he was wrong! You are not always going to agree with every employee all the time, so it is no different with family. Fortunately we are not on top of each other most days too. Glen is at the warehouse or dockside and I’m in the office, that separation helps too.
